A 34-year-old driver and his associate have been arrested for stealing gold and diamond jewelry worth Rs 54.14 lakh from a businessman's flat in Juhu, Mumbai. Every one of the stolen assets has been recovered.
According to Juhu police, the theft took place in the sixth-floor flat of a 68-year-old businessman in a housing society near Juhu Gymkhana in Vile Parle (West) when he had gone out to buy fruits around noon on June 16. The thief stole the gold. And diamond-studded jewelry worth Rs 54.14 lakh, he said, the housing society had neither security guards nor CCTV cameras.
Ajit Kumar Vartak, the senior inspector of the Juhu police station, said, "We scrutinized several CCTV cameras in the vicinity to identify the accused." On June 22, the police arrested two accused, Satish Sigwan (34) and Ankush Monde (38), a security guard.
“Sigvan had worked for the complainant for a year but was fired due to incompetence. But the complainant was not aware that Sigwan had made a duplicate key to his flat. Sigwan gave the key to Monde, who used it to enter the flat and steal valuables,” said assistant police inspector Vijay Dhotre.
Both were remanded to police custody till June 28 and told the police that valuables were kept in their homes in Nalasopara and Andheri. The police went there and recuperated every one of the assets.
